I made a decision at the start of the COVID-19 crisis not to share a key piece of personal information on this page but circumstances have forced me to re-evaluate this decision and I have something to share. I am one of the people who fell through the net of government support. In my circumstance, this is because my 18/19 tax return was 51% PAYE meaning I was ineligible for SEISS. This has had a detrimental effect on finances and emotions for 6 months and has been a challenge like no other.
Sadly, I am far from alone in this. The rules are not fair, the current schemes fall short. An estimated 3 million people have been excluded over the past 6 months, many of whom are now in dire straits. 10% of the British workforce have been left to pay bills with no income. I am so incredibly proud to share this video which is the culmination of 6 weeks work. These people are all excluded and have never met. They are all over the country and the vast majority are not professional musicians but simply honest and hard workers.
I found the ExcludedUK community on Facebook 9 weeks ago and the strength of the 18000+ members is phenomenal. We are not going away, we are not giving up.
I had the great honour of leading some of them in this choir venture to raise our voices and be heard and have been part of a hugely inspirational and talented team. It is one of my proudest moments and achievements in my career so far. Please, if you have 4 minutes, watch this video and then I’d be so grateful if you could take an extra minute to share it.
A different kind of happy Friday! https://youtu.be/Xum4zBVpn1o
